Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary – Uganda Chimpanzee Tracking Safari Experience
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, situated on Ngamba Island in Lake Victoria, is a crucial conservation and rehabilitation facility dedicated to the protection and welfare of orphaned and rescued chimpanzees. Covering approximately 100 hectares, the sanctuary provides a natural and secure habitat for over 50 chimpanzees, offering them a forested environment where they can exhibit natural behaviors and integrate into a social group.
The sanctuary plays a vital role in wildlife conservation by offering a permanent home to chimpanzees that have been rescued from illegal wildlife trade, habitat destruction, and other forms of exploitation. It also serves as an educational center, raising awareness about chimpanzee conservation and the broader issues affecting primates and their habitats. As part of Uganda’s broader network of conservation initiatives, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary offers a range of visitor experiences that emphasize both education and responsible tourism.
Traford Safaris Ltd provides guided tours of the sanctuary, where visitors can observe the chimpanzees during feeding times and participate in educational programs about their care and conservation. These visits support the sanctuary’s mission by providing much-needed funding and fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by chimpanzees in the wild. By promoting sustainable tourism and supporting conservation efforts, Traford Safaris Ltd helps ensure that Ngamba Island continues to serve as a beacon of hope for chimpanzees and contributes to the preservation of Uganda’s rich biodiversity.
